Frequently Asked Questions
I’m not sure whether to book an OHA or OHP – what’s the difference?
I’m not sure whether to book an OHA or OHP – what’s the difference?
An Occupational Health Advisor (OHA) is a qualified nurse with specialist training in workplace health. They’re well-equipped to support most cases, including short- to medium-term absence, stress, musculoskeletal issues, and fitness for work.
An Occupational Health Physician (OHP) is a medical doctor with advanced OH qualifications. They’re best suited to complex or long-term health cases, safety-critical roles, ill health retirement, or where a medical opinion is needed.
Not sure? You can book a Clinical Advisory Call – a 30-minute chat with an OHA to help you decide the most appropriate route and what to include in your referral.
What if I book an OHA but my case needs an OHP?
What if I book an OHA but my case needs an OHP?
If, during an appointment with an Occupational Health Advisor (OHA), it becomes clear that escalation to an Occupational Health Physician (OHP) is needed, this recommendation will be noted as a recommendation in the OHA’s report.
In this instance, a separate referral for an OHP assessment would need to be made, and additional costs will apply. Our team will guide you through the process if this is required.
To help avoid delays or duplicate bookings, we recommend a Clinical Advisory Call if you’re unsure which type of referral is most appropriate for your case.

How soon can the assessment take place?
Following confirmation of all the required referral details, we aim to offer appointments within 3-5 working days, depending on availability and the complexity of the case. We’ll confirm the earliest possible date once we have everything we need.
Is the assessment confidential?
Is the assessment confidential?
Yes. All assessments are carried out confidentially by qualified occupational health clinicians. The resulting report will be shared with the employer only after gaining the employee’s informed consent.
How does the consent and prior sight process work? Can an employee withdraw consent?
How does the consent and prior sight process work? Can an employee withdraw consent?
Before an occupational health report is shared with the employer, the employee must provide informed consent. As part of this process, they are offered prior sight of the report — the chance to review it before release.
Please note that the employee has the right to withdraw consent to share the outcome report after their consultation. If this happens, the case will be closed, and you will be notified accordingly. The booking will still be chargeable, as the assessment and report preparation have been completed.
When an employee requests prior sight, this may also cause a delay in the report being shared with the referrer. This is because the employee may request factual amendments, which will then need to be reviewed by the clinician, amended if appropriate, and resent to the employee before the report can be released.
This process ensures transparency and fairness for all parties while upholding employee confidentiality.
